Intel X79 Enthusiast Chipset Sketched in Roadmap

According to sources engineering samples are already being distributed and tested. First rumours sound positive for extreme overclockers and devestating for LGA1155-users.

Intel's next platform for enthusiasts (successor to LGA1366, X58), will consist of a 2011-pin LGA socket, the Sandy Bridge-E (enthusiast) processor that features a massive quad-channel DDR3 memory controller and 32+ lane PCI-Express 2.0 hub, and the X79 chipset. Intel is looking to skip the 6-series chipset family with its next high-end platform chipset, and perhaps it makes sense since the platform is slated for Q4 2011. The X79 is a PCH (platform controller hub), like P55 and P67, since Intel has reorganized the platform. The beefy PCI-E hub housed in the X58 northbridge is relocated to the processor die, and the southbridge is given a much needed overhaul in terms of connectivity.

The X79 is much bigger than P67 in terms of connectivity and features. Differences start right at the interconnect. While P67 connects to the processor over DMI (physical PCI-Express 2.0 x4), X79 supplements this link with an additional PCI-Express 2.0 x4 link to the processor's PCI-E hub if the user chooses so, in the EFI setup program. The chipset bus hence ends up with 8 GB/s of bandwidth, and wait till you hear what will make use of it: a 10-port SATA 6 Gb/s RAID controller integrated to the PCH! That is a huge improvement in terms of storage connectivity, which is limping with 2-port SATA 6 Gb/s (next to four 3 Gb/s ports) on 6-series chipsets.

Lastly, X79 is geared for extreme overclocking of the processor and memory. That's expected of this platform.

Koliko se ja sećam, a valjda dobro se sećam, danas nema procesora sa 2011 pinskim podnožjem. Ispravi me ako grešim .

Pratim LGA2011 tematiku jer ocekujem da cu tada napraviti sledeci iskorak sa upgrade-om racunara

Makers To Demo Intel X79 Boards at COMPUTEX 2011

Since Intel Z68 Express chipset is coming out around the corner, motherboard makers has turned their attention to the X79 Express chipset and planned to showcase the boards during COMPUTEX Taipei 2011. If you are lucky enough, you can catch some running demos somewhere. Intel X79 boards will be ready as early as August and Sandy Bridge-E processor about a month after. Let's take a closer look at what this high end desktop chipset and Sandy Bridge-E processor have to offer.

Intel X79 chipset is codenamed Patsburg-HEDT PCH and its processor is codenamed Sandy Bridge-E and together they form the Waimea Bay platform, a two-chip solution. Intel X79 boards will be ready as early as August and Sandy Bridge-E processor about a month after.

Auh, koja nostalgija kad videh one Asusove zhute ploche, ala "Socket A" .

Nego, koji idiotizam ove ploche sa 2 DDR3 slota sa obe strane. Visoka memorija u sva 4 slota + neki veliki kuler (chitaj Noctua NH-D14) = snadji se?

Ovo za USB 3.0 je smeshno koliko je glupo. Vazhno je da ce izaci 100 plocha sa 4 i vishe PEG slotova i da ima 30 faza za procesor.

^ Stoje tako jer su sve maticne ploce za LGA2011 sa 4 DIMM slota su za "budzetne" ploce dok ce top-top modeli biti sa dual quad channel memorijom tj imace 4+4 DIMM slota. Iz razloga dizajna su tako odradjene,a pritom je i samo leziste za CPU prilicno veliko te bi bilo vrlo neprakticno da se montira na standardan nacin
