The Bottom Line
The Enermax Triathlor 650W is part of Enermax’ new lineup of mid to entry level products. As such, this unit is going to be having a rough go of it as it will be expected to not only be a solid performing unit, but also an economical unit which is something Enermax units we have reviewed over the years have struggled with. If we look at this unit’s performance in a relative sense, we immediately see that the solid performing part is in danger. This is because, while the unit does pass all of the tests we threw at it, it passes our tests with results that generally trail the competition. Indeed, for a unit with such high build quality the only good voltage regulation, in specification Transient Load results, good DC Output Quality, decent efficiency, and somewhat noisy sound profile make this unit a passing unit and not much better than that when we compare it to units such as the recent XFX ProSeries 650W. Indeed, even compared to the Modu82+ 625W, which this is supposed to be a comparable product line, this unit gives us precious few reasons to select this unit over a 5 year old product! Things are not helped much when we then see the price on this unit is $119.99. This price premium, relative to the competition, that we have seen from other Enermax units before is still present today and with this units results it is much more difficult to rationalize that price difference than it has been on some of Enermax' higher-end offerings. Taken altogether, these things make this unit a hard sell today unless of course you can catch it on a healthy sale.
