5 million copies in only a month makes God of War one of Sony’s fastest-selling games ever. By comparison, God of War III sold only 5.2 million copies over its entire lifetime, and Sony’s biggest 2017 hit, Horizon Zero Dawn, took a year to move around 7.5 million copies. God of War was the best-selling game in April according to the NPD Group, and it should be interesting to see what kind of legs the game has.

The NPD Group has published its report for April, highlighting the winners during a traditionally quiet month.

Starting off with software, God of War was the month’s best-selling game. God of War had the highest ever launch month, in terms of dollar sales, for a PlayStation exclusive. Thanks to the game’s success, Sony was April’s top-selling publisher.

All of this pushed software dollar sales for PS4 to reach an all-time high in April, higher than any other platform since NPD started tracking the market in 1995.
