AMD is slated to launch the Radeon HD 4890 card based on the RV790 core in April not the rumored Radeon HD 4970. The RV790XT A11 sample is running at 850Mhz core at 1.3V and 975Mhz GDDR5 memory. In comparision, a Radeon HD 4870 (RV770) card runs at 750MHz core and 900MHz GDDR5 memory. AMD told their partners that RV790 is expected to be around 20% faster than the current Radeon HD 4870 RV770 card and will compete headon against the GeForce 285 GTX card. The pricing? Between US$199 to US$249.

Update : CJ informed us that there will be 2 versions of the Radeon HD 4890 cards; standard edition and OC edition. The standard edition will launch in mid Apr while the OC edition will launch by end of Apr. The Radeon HD 4890 OC edition has 1GB memories onboard and is expected to be 25-30% faster than HD 4870. It is said to be priced at US$299.

E ovo ja zovem odgovorom na GTX260 Core 216... a videcemo i za GTX285... Shto volim ovako kompetentnu scenu, dodje ti da sednesh uz kokice i samo da gledash ko ce shta da izbaci Samo nVidia po meni ne pravi dovoljno dobre cenovne poteze, ATi-u mnogo znachi shto su ranije preshli na sitniji proces :S

Cena je definitivno najbolja stvar u celoj priči, nadam se samo da Nvidia ne zaostane mnogo. Nešto sporo reaguju, uspavala ih serija 88xx. Još žive od stare slave.

Karta ce se praviti u 55nm ipak, ocito jos uvek ima neke frke sa cipovima u 40nm procesu bar onim namenjenih high end segmentu...

Intel planira 'nake njegove graficke 2010,tako da se nvidia-i ne pise bas najbolje.

Nista ti ne brini za Nvidiu i AMD, Intelove grafe nece moci da im pariraju...

Neznam kako mozete da otpisete intel. Evo AMD ga je otpisao pre 3-4 godine pa vidite sta ih snadje. Naucili su da nikada netreba potcenjivati neprijatelja.

Larebe grafa koje intel najavljuje, mozda nece odma imati preformanse kao AMD i NV ali cinjenica da se zasnivaju na prastaroj i jos nepravizedjenoj x86 arhitekturi znaci da ce biti zanimljiva za GP GPU upotrebu. I cena mora da bude prihvatljiva ako oce da se ukljuce u trku, tako da vrlo lako moze da se desi da intel ispunu svoj san a moju nocnu moru da imaju potpuni monopol na trzistu PC komponenti. Procesori, cipsetovi, grafe, hadovi (SSD)... svuda oce da budu glavni.

Trebalo bi negde kraj marta pa do juna kad ubodu, za sad i jedni i drugi izgleda imaju problema, tacnije TSMC koji pravi cipove ima problema sa high end 40nm cipovima, zato ce mozda da bude pomeranja i zato nije izvesno sta ce i kad doci...

AMD’s High-Performance Graphics Update Not Expected to Radically Boost Performance – Sources.

ATI Radeon HD 4890 – Only a Clock-Speed Increase

by Anton Shilov Despite of rumours floating around the Internet, ATI’s (graphics products group of Advanced Micro Devices) approaching update for the high-performance graphics segment will not bring in considerable performance improvements as the new product will just feature improved clock-speeds over existing graphics boards.
According to industrial sources with knowledge of the matter, the code-named ATI RV790 graphics processing unit is nothing else but the already shipping ATI RV770 chip with higher clock-speeds. The new processor can operate at higher frequencies since its design is slightly refined, certain erratums (which do not affect performance or stability of the RV770) are corrected and process technology adjustments are made.
ATI RV770/790 graphics processing units feature 800 stream processors, 40 texture units, 16 render back ends as well as 256-bit memory bus compatible with GDDR3, GDDR4 and GDDR5 memory types. The RV790 will feature higher clock-speeds, but not increased number of execution units.
Performance increases of the graphics card that is projected to be called ATI Radeon HD 4890 over the existing Radeon HD 4870 1GB should not be high as the difference between two products will be increases of clock-speeds. In case the graphics card designer decides to release ATI Radeon HD 4890 X2, performance gain should be modest as well.
"This is exactly the same situation as in the case of transition from ATI Radeon 9800 Pro to ATI Radeon 9800 XT back in 2003, performance gain will not be massive," a person wished to remain anonymous said.
ATI is known for working on different speed-bins of various processors, for instance, its ATI R300 (Radeon 9700), R350 (Radeon 9800 Pro) and R360 (Radeon 9800 XT) were essentially the same chip, but could function at completely different clock-speeds. ATI/AMD has now chosen the same option since it does not immediately need a new GPU in the current competitive and market environments.
The recent history of graphics processing units does not know examples when a company introduced a brand-new GPU with new internal design that would only be 20% - 30% faster compared to predecessor in the same price-range. Therefore, the information about increased number of stream processors inside RV790 is not correct, according to sources with known of the situation.

Exclusive: AMD-ATi will launch Radeon HD 4890 in April 6th. AMD-ATi Radeon HD 4890 is just a 'super clocked' 4870, still 55nm manufactiring process and same architecture just faster clocks. Clock speeds are yet to be decided but problably comes with 850 gpu and 3600MHz (maybe 3900MHz?) memory frequencies. Currently launch date of HD 4890 is April 6th.

Što se tiče grupe ljudi koji već imaju 4850 ili 4870, po meni neće biti svhe za upgrade. Ali da imam 3870 svakako bih razmislio.

Onda ti je bolje da za 250 uzmes 4850x2 koji je vec otisao na trziste,nego da cekas 4800xtx(4890)
